More progress on the pony order

Heya folks, I'm back with some more progress. Last week I got this order for an oc custom, and in last post showed you the progress of his tail. This time I'll show you the progress of the mane.
The mane was actually harder to make than the tail, especially so thanks to the wings. Wings pretty much always make things harder when making custom manes from clay. Nevertheless, I hope my customer will be happy with the results, then it's time to get to the painting!

This is the base of the mane I worked on. Never mind the wrong body, it's just easier to make the hair when the wings are not in the way.
The other side has now been finished. Not really much to say at this point, though it got harder after this.
Aand the other side as well. This was the hardest part in many ways, especially in getting it to resemble the other side as much as possible. Also, the hair goes completely around the ear on the other side.
Finished mane with the right body. Had to do some adjusting to get the mane to go nicely with the wings.
And from the back.
And the other side. I just like this side more.

Back with progress

First off, sorry for the long, loong delay. I suppose I don't have that many readers at this point, nor does it really matter. Maybe at some point someone stumbles over my humble blog and maybe even leaves a comment? That'd be nice!

Anyway, even if I haven't been writing here that much, I have been busy. Not only with stress, sick leave and other nice stuff like that, but actually with some pony customs. I made my way to the Helsinki-meeting, my first one. They held a pony auction (pony stuffs, self-made or other) and had four of my customs sold. The next one will be held in January, and I have something grand planned for it... several something grands actually. But that's another story.

Now, I have been working today on a oc custom ordered from me. I plan on finishing it this week, and sending it next week. Today I made and finished the tail. Tomorrow I have 8 hours of school, so I might not be up to making the mane just yet. Still, I have the whole weekend to work with this project. It'll be very interesting painting this one, since she has eyeglasses... Heh, I like me some challenge!
Anyhow, on to the progress pics!

Tracon 2013 and Taidekuja

I'm attending Tracon here in Finland durin 14-15th of September.
And, now it's official, I'm going to have a table from Taidekuja. Taidekuja (could be translated in to "Art Street" or such) is a place to sell my own art, be it drawn or sculpted or whatever. So long as I made it myself.

So this means, I'm gonna make customs and other stuff for that! Stay tuned for WIP pics and finished projects!

Sorry that I've been gone

Sorry folks, lately I've been busy with my school starting, so I haven't had the time and energy to work on my pony stuff (or much other stuff at that either).

Just had an idea though.... What if I made Fashion Style and brushable accessories?

Sneak Peeks

I haven't been able to complete paint jobs on any of the unfinished ponies due to my sealant running dry. So tomorrow I'm going out to boy some more!

So now I'm giving you some sneak peeks on what I have under work

Prepping a pony for customization

Today I'm going to show how I prepare my ponies for customization. You could say that this is a tutorial thingy. So let's start!
First off, the tools I use are
-The pony itself (duh)
-scissors
-thin blade/knife
So my victim is Pinkie Pie.

Here she is, all happy and oblivious to what I'm going to do with her.
The method I use for taking off the mane and tail is a bit of a pain, but ensures that the pony can be rehaired. I don't even rehair my ponies, I just like to have them hair-free.
The easiest way to remove hair, if you're not going to rehair the pony, is to simply cut the mane and tail as close to the pony as possible.

Of course, doing thtat you don't need to take the head off...

The first step is to cut her mane. I'm keeping the mane and tail, so I tied it and cut it off.

Then I just clip until the mane is very short.

You can see Pinkies mane in front of the camera in the other pic.
You might want to consider selling the hair to people who rehair their ponies.

Poor Pinkie, I beheaded her!

Sometimes taking the head off calls for a lot of strength. The few first times were pretty hard for me, but practice makes perfect as they say.

Now I simply put the head aside for some time. I won't need it for a while.

Next step requires the use of blade. Blades and knives are not toys! Use them carefully so that you don't hurt yourself!

Remember, blades and knives are not toys!
Next step is to take the plug from the pony out. We will need a blade for this, as it's glued in.
Carefully slide the blade between the actual pony and the plug. Push down.
I find it easier to push down with the blade rather than saw. Sawing is fast, but you might end up cutting accidentally through your pony's neck. cutting by pushing down takes a bit more time, but is safe for the pony.
The hardest place to cut through is the front of the neck. The glue extends far down, and you need to be careful so that your blade doesn't come out of your pony's chest.

Remember to be careful! I really can't stress this enough.

Now my pony's unplugged!
Now put the plug someplace it stays safe, we will need it later.

Taking the tail off is easy!
Just reach in with tweezers, grab it and pull it away.

Now I need to remove the rest of the mane from her.
The mane is actually glued to stay, so it's a bit of a pain to take off. This is where I use scissors, reaching inside the head with one side.
Then I scrape inside the head, taking glue off bit by bit. You should see hair disappearing into the head at this point.
Some say that boiling the head before attempting this helps, but it didn't help me. Using scissors has been the most efficient way to remove the remains of the hair for me.

Now all we need to do is take the worst offenders from inside the head with tweezers.
This is actually optional, but I do it anyway.
Now we have three parts: the head, the body and the plug.

Now I put the plug back to the head. This might be a bit hard, since the plug is rather small. Sometimes it takes me fifteen minutes to get them back together.
Now I simply remove the eyes and cutie mark with some nail polish remover and ta-dah! We have a blank pony base to work upon!

Thanks for staying with me through this tutorial thingie ^___^
I hope this helps at least a bit! And if you feel like you didn't get some part or need to ask something, go right ahead! I am glad to help if I can!

Luna painting

So, today I finally finished sculpting for Rarity, Rainbow Dash and Fluttershy. Seriously, Super Sculpey is clearly the best clay from what I've already tried! It sculpts nicely, is easy to reshape and... Well, from the moment I took first piece in to my hands and rolled it around to get the feel, I was in love. I'm never going back to Cernit, ever.
Now, to the actual ponies! I ended up having some serious trouble painting them. I have no idea why, but painting my customs is really much harder to me than the sculpting part. Especially thin, clean lines are hard. I have some ideas but I still need to buy supplies first.

Luna in the process of being painted, workig on her shoes in this one. Also, Celestias front legs and part of her mane xD
It really is a pain to find the exact right colors when mixing acrylics since I only have the basic colors and a few additional colors.

Luna with /mostly) finished painting. Too bad that my sealant ran dry. I really love how her mane and tail came out. And I think the colors are mostly right.

Meet my poor, cluttered scanner. And the ponies on it. On the left you'll see a bride pony I've had since I was a teensy kid, next to her Fluttershy in Gala dress, then Twilight. Under Twilight you can see beheaded Rarity and next to her Rainbow Dash in her Wedding dress, There's also Angel Bunny. And on the right top corner you can see the legs and tail of a project I won't yet reveal >8)

And finally, have an additional goode: Luna painting! This is not the best possible photo, but anyway.

All comments, critiques and tips are encouraged and loved!

Rainbow Dash, Rarity and Fluttershy customs!

In addition to Luna and Celestia, I started three other ponies today. Rainbow Dash in Canterlot Wedding dress, Fluttershy and Rarity as seen showing off in Boast Busters.
First off, Rainbow Dash.
I really don't like this dress so much, but since I made a very stupid mistake while taking her head off, I had to choose something that covers her neck. I'm also having some serious trouble wit her trail, but I do like how the cloud trimming looks.

Then we have Rarity. I really wanted to make this outfit from Boast Busters (you may see it on the screen behind her), and especially her mane. It was hard one to do too, but I'm starting to like this one.

Last we have poor, be-headed Fluttershy. I was concentrating on her tail, so there's really nothing to see for the head yet.

How a blog starts

So I finally decided to keep my own pony centered blog.
For now, this blog will be called Pony Creative. The centering will be my pony works, such as customs, traditional art and anything else I happen to make. I might also post some off-pony stuff occasionally.

So, as starters, let me show you this darling little Luna in progress! Isn't she a darling?
All left to do for me is to paint her. I'm just a bit afraid to do that... Oh well.
I also have a Celestia in progress, but no pics of her yet.
There's also four bases for me to work on, Just not yet sure what to make of them.

Well, this is a short one, but I hope you do enjoy it!
